Hi everyone we have been inundated with messages this evening. Thank you to every single one of you who has taken the time to message us with various bits and pieces, including historical cases.
We are aware that for some people, the anger, pain and grief is still very much at the surface and we are sorry if we have had to be brief and business like. It’s not a reflection of a lack of emotion about this case – it’s us trying to stay professional when what we’d most like to do is simply cry with you.
A few questions keep coming up so we are going to answer them as best we can here:
(i) You’ve denied a link between the Cinderford killings and the Cat Killer murders yet the BBC have just released an article about a possible link?
First and foremost, this is a public page and we don’t normally discuss aspects of the investigation that might be going on, for obvious reasons. We are not currently aware of any link but it would be stupid for the investigating team in Croydon not to be talking to the Cinderford team. Of course they are, because they are on the ball. That still doesn’t mean there is any link, just that it’s being looked at.
(ii) Are you aware of the Cannock case?
Yes we are and we are looking into it.
(iii) How come the RSPCA have publicised this and you haven’t?
The RSPCA are a separate organisation to us. Whilst we are working with them, what they choose to publicise is up to them. We don’t dictate what they say and don’t say and they don’t dictate what we say and don’t say, which is healthy and the right way to go about things.
(iv) When will I hear back about my home visit for cat rehoming?
In all honesty, when we get a break. The kittens are still four weeks away from being ready to go anywhere, which is plenty of time for us to do home checks. The adult cats are waiting for homes and we are going to start advertising them one by one, again when we get a chance.
(v) Can you take my cat on? Why not?
See above. We are full. In fact we are beyond full. We cannot just take cats on without being able to look after them properly. That wouldn’t be a rescue, it would be a hoarder. We tend to stop taking cats in at 9 at the sanctuary (three who have terminal illnesses) and 16 at the rehoming centre, with an emergency space for an emergency. We are currently 10 at the sanctuary and 18 at the rehoming centre, plus the rodent room. This is the utter limit we can do, to ensure that every animal in our care gets proper care, attention, love and medical care. There are two of us and one of us works full time. Until we have time to do (iv), we won’t have any spaces. It’s not great, because we have to turn animals away but we also need to make sure that each of the animals we have taken on gets the care, love and attention they need. They are our priority – most of them didn’t get a choice in the matter, they ended up with us and it is our responsibility to look after them properly. The stark reality of operating a no kill rescue is that there are limited spaces, always.
(vi) Can you please share our missing cat post? Yes, but no use in sharing a post unless it has (a) a photo of your cat (b) details of where your cat went missing from (c) a contact number for people who think they’ve seen your cat to call. We cannot take on responsibility for making up posters and getting it out there for you. We can’t act as a central number for calls about your cat. We currently have 10 posts to share which we will start in the morning. if you haven’t bothered to get posters and flyers up and out in the area, and can’t be arsed to put a poster together, we are not likely to consider you a responsible owner. Harsh but true.
(vii) Things we have ruled out of the investigation:
– foxes (we are no longer going to respond to this shit – it’s been publicly ruled out by the police that the mutilations are by a bladed object; foxes do not attack cats as a rule; people who continue to perpetuate this myth in the face of police confirmation to the contrary are going to be ignored from now on)
– gang activity
– multiple suspects
– terrorist-linked activity
(viii) Things we are still considering:
– black magic (but there is no evidence to suggest it)
– everything else
(ix) Things we are sure of, backed up by evidence:
– one suspect who is highly mobile
(x) Finally, a massive big thank you to Romney House Rescue who shared our pinned post. Thanks to them, we have received a number of historical cases which we are currently processing.
And as always, a thanks to everyone who has put forward thoughts and leads. There is no such thing as a stupid idea, but we’ll be the first to say if it’s already been ruled out.
Tony and Boudicca
